XLGL Licensing

November 25, 2009

We’ve been getting a lot of questions on licensing and renewal/upgrade lately, so I though I would answer those now.

The first thing to know is that when you purchase XLGL you get a serial number. Associated with that serial number is an expiration date. The serial number grants you the right to use any version of XLGL released up to the expiration date. It also grants you the right to access support up to the same date.

When you reach the expiration date, you can still use XLGL. The only thing that changes is that you do not have access to new release of XLGL.

You never need to pay for a particular upgrade for XLGL. Either your updates and support subscription is valid or it’s not. If it is, you can download and install at will. If not, then you need to renew.

At the moment of this writing, renewing is 199$ for 1 year of access to updates and support. This price is for one serial number, independently of the number of installation license associated with it. Whether you have a license for 1 computer or 5 computers, you pay a maximum of 199$.

Speaking of installed licenses, XLGL can be installed on one computer plus either a home computer or a laptop, for a total of two installations. Additional license can be purchased and associated with the same serial number at a discounted price (99$ right now).

After either your initial purchase or renewal, you must activate XLGL to synchronise it with our Activation Database. XLGL may ask you to activate or you can activate manually by going to XLGL > About… and clicking the Activate button.

Any other questions on licensing/activation? Please let me know.

Registering XLGL in Excel

July 29, 2009

For some reason, either after installation or later on, the XLGL menu may not appear in Excel. Actually, the add-in is not loaded at all and it becomes impossible to refresh your report. This can be caused by updates, antivirus/antispyware program and others.

Luckily, fixing this is easy. Here are the steps to take in Excel 2000-2003 and then for Excel 2007.

Excel 2000-2003

1-On the Excel menu, click on Tools, then Add-ins.

2-Mark the checkbox for XLGL and click OK.

Excel 2007

1-Click the Office button. (the big round button in the upper left)

2-Click Excel Options (at the bottom right of the window)

3-Select Add-ins in the left panel.

4-At the bottom of the window, click Go…

5-Mark the checkbox for XLGL and click OK.

In the case where XLGL would not be in the list, click on Browse… and retrieve the XLGL.XLL file from the installation folder. If you did not change it at installation, it will be:

C:\Program Files\Logicim inc.\XLGL\XLGL.XLL

What is XLGL?

December 16, 2008

XLGL screenSo what is XLGL and, more importantly, what can it do for you?

Technically speaking, XLGL is an Excel Add-in, a piece of software that attach itself to Excel and augment its features. XLGL creates a bridge between Excel and Simply Accounting both easier to use and more powerful than MS Query or other import/export tools.

In more simple terms, XLGL helps you report from Simply Accounting data using Microsoft Excel.

Now, most people I’ve talk to in the accounting world use Excel for reporting, analysis, forecasting and other words I don’t quite understand :-) At some point you may need data coming from Simply Accounting. The balance of an account, a list of projects, a phone number?

If you’re creating financial statement, you may need a lot of data from Simply Accounting, and you’ll want to organize it in a certain way. Same thing for an inventory report, or a sales report. Maybe you just need your total sales for the period? Whatever it is, XLGL will get it for you, with the help of easy to use functions and lists, that are both flexible and powerful.

Since most people use XLGL for financial reporting, in my next blog entry I will take some time to show how to report those number using XLGL. One simple function.

How do you do your reporting using Excel? Do you enter everything by hand? Copy and paste? Import? Let us know.
